Hei .
En puhu hyvin suomea.
Joten kirjoitan kaikki englanniksi.
Toivottavasti ymmärrät ja tämä on kunnossa kanssasi....
(Sorry for writing in English but I am sure your English is much better than my Finnish
Radio Merkurs has a very special music format with golden oldies, schlager and evergreens (rock, pop, soul, disco, swing) from the mid-50s until the late 70s / early 80s.
What makes it so special, is the fact that they play a variety of different languages such as
English
French
Italian
Spanish
Portuguese
German
Dutch
Flemish
Norwegian
Swedish
Finnish
Latvian
Lithuanian
Estonian
and Instrumentals (2-3 each hour). If I like to listen to the "good old stuff" from golden ages, this one is my favorite. They do not have any news, ads, presentation or so - and they only use two different jingles, as far as I know. A short one spoken by a man and a longer one with a woman, too. Both are introduced and finished with a very remarkable interval signal.
That station could be heard in Nth. Germany on 1485 from Bolderaja tx (near LV capital of Riga) with some efforts during the evenings and at night as this frequency is also used by SER (Spain) and at least two different BBC channels. It was mostly heavily interfered, but I like their sound.
Some weeks ago, I have read it will be shut down the end of the year on different sources such as
Notes: Station closing at the end of 2017https://mwradio.eu/detail/643/ will stop end of 2017 (moves to DAB+Internet)http://www.mwlist.org/mwlist_quick_and_easy.php?area=1&kHz=1485Had a quite good signal the last few days and they have been on air after 31/12.
I heard them today, at least until 6:30 CET. In the evening (around 8 - 9 PM), the signal must have been closed down. There was a 1khz test tone while SER and the BBC's were still audible.
After 10 o'clock tonight, the spanish and british stations were much stronger. Then, there was no trace of Merkurs.
I am not really sure (due to the very strange conditions on AM tonight) but it seems they have been gone until now. That would be very sad because it is definitely a loss.
Their unique but lovely musical selection was definitely worth listening to and there are only few high-quality music stations remaining on medium wave (even less on shortwave), such as Caroline 648, UVF, Seagull/KBC, Mi Amigo, dutch pirates, Manx, ...
let's wait until tomorrow evening and see if they come back or not. I still hope the best.
